2010 Annual LOA Meeting Report
The Louisiana Orthopaedic Association held its annual meeting on April 8 – 10 in New Orleans, LA, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. It was a well attended and successful meeting. Dr. Ollie Edmunds presided over the meeting as President of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Buddy Savoie served as the Program Chairman. The meeting format was a very quick pace with speakers allowed four minutes to present their topics. Dr. Edmunds invited three Presidential guest speakers who each did an excellent job. Dr. Bill Beach from Richmond, Virginia has been very active on the Health Policy Committees for the AAOS, AOSSM, and Arthroscopy Association. Dr. Beach presented an office management symposium that included coding, EMR applications, and office efficiency. On Saturday he gave an update on Healthcare Reform and Advocacy in Washington DC. Dr. Jack Bert from St. Paul, Minnesota is Past President of AANA. Dr. Bert participated in a symposium on the degenerative knee in middle aged athletes. He also presented a lecture on how to evaluate an orthopaedic practice and employment contract. Dr. Mike Bolognesi from Durham, North Carolina has a large practice in Adult Reconstruction at Duke. Dr. Bolognesi lectured on New Techniques and Technology in Hip and Knee Replacement.
Aside from these excellent presentations, the members of the Association and area orthopaedic residents gave presentations on several topics. The program also included several presentations on the business side of orthopaedics. Symposium topics included: Elbow Arthritis by Dr. Buddy Savoie, and ACL Reconstruction by Dr. Mike Brunet. Several panels were presented with case presentations on Pelvic / Acetabular Trauma, Massive Rotator Cuff Tears, and Ankle Fractures.
